Charter Senior Living, one of the nation’s leading senior living providers, is making an impact during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each October, the focus turns toward breast cancer awareness and the importance of early detection, and Charter Senior Living is proud to help share this message.
Throughout the month of October, Charter Senior Living communities will host their Bras for a Cause “Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness” events. These events encourage residents and guests to dress in their pinkest outfits and come together to enjoy pink snacks, drinks and activities to lift the spirits of anyone who’s been affected by breast cancer. In advance of the event, each community is asking for donations of new or gently used bras of all colors and sizes to be dropped off in their lobby. These will first be used to decorate for the event, and then donated to human service nonprofit organizations local to the community.
“Last year, the Panama City Beach community inspired us with their mission-driven event as they collected bras of all sizes, shapes and colors and strung them together across the driveways and streets of the community, making an incredible visual display to demonstrate their support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” shared Tammy Sunderman, Charter Senior Living vice president of marketing and sales. “Along with their pink lemonade stand, pink cotton candy and all-pink apparel, there was truly an impact made on the community. We are delighted to have each Charter Senior Living community participating in this event in 2022.”
In addition to these events, funds will be raised throughout October and donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, breast cancer is the second most common cancer in American women; it is estimated that in 2022, approximately 30% of all new women cancer diagnoses will be breast cancer. 1 out of 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, so the importance of screenings and early detection is vital.
“As part of Charter Senior Living’s mission to enhance the human spirit, we are proud to show we are more than just a senior living company, but an organization that supports charitable causes throughout the year,” remarked Sunderman. “Breast cancer impacts so many lives, and we are pleased to support this cause in a meaningful way that is also fun for our residents.”
