Every day, D. Mark Schumann helps business leaders around the world refresh, retool and reinvent how they communicate. He works with leaders to rebuild their informal and formal communication skills, and reconfirm their commitments to inform, involve and inspire the people who follow. The result? Leaders become better leaders because they become better communicators. As a certified executive coach, Mark creates one-on-one and small group experiences for leaders at such organizations as IBM, Delta Airlines, Sabre and CenterPoint Energy. In recent years, he has also worked with leaders at such organizations as ExxonMobil, BP, Kimberly-Clark, DIRECTV, Halliburton, American Express and Total. Mark – who started his career as Director of Communications for the original Frontier Airlines – recently led the reinvention of the work environment as VP Culture for Sabre. Earlier, he led the communications consulting business for the firm Towers Perrin and served as Director of Communication Studies at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College, part of the City University of New York.
He is a Past Chair of IABC, the International Association of Business Communicators, and an IABC Fellow. Mark is the winner of 17 IABC Gold Quill Awards and 34 Silver and Bronze Quill awards. His films were twice named Best Picture of the Year at the U.S. Industrial Film Festival. He was named Communicator of the Year of Houston and Dallas and is an Accredited Business Communicator (ABC). He is certified as an executive coach by Columbia University. Mark has coauthored two books on employer brand – Brand from the Inside and Brand for Talent – as well as chapters on leadership communications for IABC’s The Handbook of Organizational Communications. He holds a Master’s Degree in business communication from the University of Denver and a Bachelor’s Degree from Austin College.
